# Diabetes Free SC

> Diabetes Free SC (DFSC) is a long-term, statewide initiative launched in 2020 that works to reduce the incidence and impact of diabetes in South Carolina. Funded by the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation, DFSC aligns community organizations and health programs to promote equity and reduce disparities in diabetes prevention, education, and care. Over 500,000 adults in South Carolina have been diagnosed with diabetes, and another 1.4 million have prediabetes.

DFSC operates through three strategic directions: improving pregnancy outcomes for women with diabetes, reducing lifelong diabetes risk in children, and preventing diabetes and its complications in adults. The initiative funds and supports eight active programs across the state, working with community partners including hospitals, faith organizations, schools, and food access organizations.
